Hi, my name is Genevieve (or Genny or Gen). I’m a writer, reader and all-around word fanatic.
The first thing I want to say is: welcome! This blog is for all you fellow writers out there, whether you’re considering writing your first short story or editing your fourth novel.
When I was trawling around the internet, looking at the variety of writing blogs out there, the majority of blogs I came across seemed to be written by people who had already succeeded in the publishing game and wanted to promote their work.
There’s nothing wrong with that, but what I really wanted to read was a blog written by someone like me: someone who loves to write, is unpublished but on the road to completing publishable work, and is still in the midst of the battle to shed the word ‘aspiring’ from ‘aspiring writer’. And to twist some popular writing advice on its head, I decided that I should write the blog I want to read.
The second thing I want to say is that I’m not an expert. I just have my opinions, informed by my various experiences and personal writing struggles (example: too many commas. What can I say? I love those little guys!). I’ll be posting on a range of subjects relevant to reading and writing, including my musings on the writing, editing and submissions process, writing mechanics, book reviews, workshop and retreat reviews, and news from the publishing and competition world. But I cannot state this enough – THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS. Please think critically and feel free to let me know if you disagree. Nicely, though, please 🙂
You can contact me in the comments section, on Twitter or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m super friendly and love new people – I’m basically a golden retriever without the crotch-sniffing. Let’s be friends!
